Design Process: Interiors
At Megan Heather Interior & Garden Design, our design services are tailored to each individual but the overall interior design process is similar. We want to make the whole design process stress-free and enjoyable for all of our clients so we use the following steps to guide you through the process.
Stage One: Initial Consultation
Before we begin any interior design project we visit your home to discuss your requirements, our services and to look around the space you would like designed. From here, we would provide a full quote for our design services. Our initial consultations are complimentary for those within the North East of Scotland. For those further afield get in touch to discuss travel costs.
Stage Two: The Idea
Research & Planning
All interior design projects begin with research and planning. Based on the initial consultation, we will have gotten an idea of how you want the space to look and how you wish to use it. The first stage of our design process is to ensure that we are on the same page in terms of design style. We begin researching design styles and finding images that demonstrate how we envisage your space. We will also show you our initial thoughts on colour schemes and furniture layouts for each room.
Site Survey
We undertake a site survey for any of the rooms you want to be transformed. As part of this measure, we take all sizes of the room including any windows, light fittings and any other structural details. If you have any furniture you wish to use within the space, we will measure these also.
Stage Three: Design Concept
The design concept varies from client to client dependent on the room and the individual requirements. It will most likely follow the below structure:
Mood Boards
Mood boards are key when designing any room and demonstrate the overall design idea. We will provide either digital or physical mood boards for each room. Our mood boards contain wallcovering, furniture, flooring and soft furnishing selections. Physical mood boards are used when there are tactile elements to the design such as fabrics and wallpapers. For designs that mostly consist of furniture selections, a digital mood board will be provided.
Floor Plans
The next stage of the design concept is floor plans. We provide drawings detailing the placement of any existing furniture as well as any new pieces we may have added. These are perfect for demonstrating sizes of furniture pieces and for showing clients the best furniture configuration.
3D Visuals
3d visuals are incredibly helpful when it comes to showing clients the vision you have for their space. Most client struggle to visualise the changes we are proposing for their room so 3d visuals are the best way to demonstrate our ideas. The amount of 3d visuals given to the client depends on the size of the space. For some rooms, one visual will be enough to convey the design idea but for larger spaces, sometimes a visual of each corner of the room is helpful.
Stage Four - The Details
Once the overall design concept has been approved, we begin focusing on the details. The design details are key for clients as this is what will allow them to put our design ideas into reality. We will provide descriptive detail drawings for any bespoke joinery work such as wardrobes, kitchens or built-in furniture. Clients will also receive a shopping list which details any wallcoverings, flooring, furniture and soft furnishings we are proposing for the space. As part of our project managing service, we are happy to arrange for the buying of any products and to help you place them in your home.
We hope this helps you to understand our design process for interior design. If you have any questions or if you would like to discuss your project contact us - we’re here to help transform your home into a space that you will love.
